"Hey, this isn't the asteroid!"

Lavaland is the new primary workplace for Shaft Miners, not to be confused with another dangerous plasma rich area. After exhausting all the hostile wildlife minerals on the asteroid, Nanotrasen scoured space around the station for a new source for that sweet, sweet Plasma. Unluckily for you, they found a young planet almost completely covered in lava and a host of deadly creatures. By that, we mean there are literal real fucking dragons roaming around. Did we mention the ash storms? There are ash storms as well. Don't forget to grab a bluespace shelter capsule. You're definitely gonna want one of those. Welcome to Lavaland.

Hazards

Lavaland is full of natural hazards. Ash Storms are the most prominent hazard; they occur on a regular basis, constantly dealing heavy burn damage to anyone unfortunate enough to be exposed to the storm. Fortunately, you will get a warning moments prior to an ash storm's arrival, giving you time to seek shelter.

Lava presents itself as the next most common hazard. Stepping into lava will set you on fire and deal massive burn damage. Even worse, the wildlife are immune to lava and can wade freely into it. However, lava is very obvious and thus easy to avoid.

The final threat are chasms; these are rare but extremely deadly and hard to spot. Walking into one will instantly kill you as you fall to your death (unless you have a jaunter on your hand or have flight)! Watch your step.

Gases and Pressure

Lavaland atmosphere does not have enough oxygen to sustain life for most players. The pressure is low enough to give you a pressure warning HUD icon, but it's not low enough to deal actual pressure damage. The temperature is random as well but stays in levels safe for humans. You can use an analyzer to determine how much time you have left until an ash storm arrives.

Previously, Lavaland had a randomized gas composition which made gas harvesting a lucrative business for cargo. However this was patched out due to lag and balance.

Sentient Life

Lavaland is surprisingly full of other sentient lifeforms, of varying hostility.

Ashwalkers: A tribe of hostile Lizardmen that worship tendrils. They don't need to breathe but they can't use guns or wear shoes. Their home base has a singularity generator as well as a disk that gives the AI malfunctioning abilities.

Lifebringers: A group of podmen who live in a seed vault with advanced hydroponics equipment. Great for people new to botany! Their chemical dispensers offers unique chemicals that are not available to hydroponics. Do be careful if they start planting Kudzu across the planet.

Golems: A band of Golems who arrived by ship that live by their creed of doing whatever. Their mining vendor offers a lathe and imprinter board that can print anything as well as grey slime extracts.

Stranded hermits: Individuals who arrived by escape pod. They live in a makeshift shelter. They have a glowshroom which might come in handy if the botanists aren't growing them.

Beach bums: Dudebros who chill in a beach biodome. Be aware that they cannot speak galactic common.

Translocated Vet: A veterinarian who has somehow, along with his/her entire hospital, been teleported into a fiery hellscape, you can find a double barreled shotgun to the west side of the hospital.

Lavaland Syndicate: A base filled with up to 4 syndicate agents and lots of syndicate loot, if you are lucky, no one is there and you can get it for free. Be careful however as they are armed with sniper rifles and and one E-sword as well as a plethora of viruses or chemical bombs if left alone for too long. Their documents next to their self destruct terminal often sells for good money as a bounty.
