These are the seperate rulesets for our servers. Keep in mind that while some rules have similar or identical names, their contents are vastly different. You are expected to follow all of these rules while playing on our servers.
Top of page notice text here
Rules
LRP (Golden) Rules
Admin Discretion
*Admins have the authority to 'ignore' rules when they feel it's in the best interest of the server/playerbase. They will, however, be fully accountable for their actions. Listen to them without argument during the round, but if you feel there is a problem with their actions, report them on the forums afterwards. The Admin Conduct that the staff are expected to follow can be found here.
Be Excellent to Each Other
*Be patient with other players and assist them when you can. Especially new ones.
*Do not excessively bully/harass other players in or out of game.
*ERP is banned as this server contains minors.
*Lawyering rules/silicon laws provided in game is not encouraged.
*Don’t attack/damage the arrivals shuttle, and do not attack anyone until they have left the area at least once.
*Annoying spam that'd otherwise get you in minor trouble will get you punished harshly when it involves racial, homophobic or discriminative slurs. Otherwise, usage of slurs must have some sort of IC value and can get you in IC trouble (Minor brig sentence, valid to the receiving end). Admins also reserve the right to mess with you if you decide to use such language, though not to the point where you're put out of the round.
Validity Rules
*Once a player is valid, they can be killed or punished by other ingame means.
*Antagonists are valid once proven. Suspicions, hearsay over comms, and meta knowledge are not sufficient enough to deem someone valid, but allow for further investigation.
*Players intentionally cooperating with antagonists are also valid. Self-antags are also valid (act like an antag, be treated like an antag.)
*Admins can deem a player valid.
*Mimes breaking their vow of silence are valid.
*ERP and Spamming radio/communications makes you valid.
*Validhunting (seeking/baiting players to kill in validity) in turn, makes you valid.
*Heads of Command/Security cannot make players valid, only warrant their arrest.
No Self-Antagging or Griefing
*Self-antagging includes damaging the station, attacking other players without a valid reason, and subverting the established chain of command as a non-antagonist role.
*Griefing includes intentionally ruining the game by abusing ingame mechanics (exploits, force crashes/lag, spamming shuttle delay, ect.)
*You may defend yourself against others in any way you are capable, but you must avoid escalating the situation if possible.
Antagonist Conduct (LRP/Golden)
Antagonists are exempt from IC rules, barring rules regarding erotic roleplay, unless stated otherwise under this. Antagonists must work with their team if they have one, though they may kill other independent antagonists. As a team antag, do not blow the cover of your team if they intend to act stealthily. This applies to team lings as well!

Murderboning
Global Rules
Murderboning is defined as the indiscriminate killing of multiple parties for absolutely no reason. Isolated killings are not murderboning.
All of the rules in this section apply to both servers and will be enforced equally regardless of which server you are on. Bans applied as a result of breaking Global rules will result in a ban from both servers, not just the server the offense occurred on.

* An independent antagonist with a set of objectives must complete at least half of their objectives, rounded up, before murderboning. Having a Hijack or Martyr objective allows an antagonist to murderbone indiscriminately.
R0 Admin Discretion/Ticket Conduct
* Wizards, Nuclear operatives, and antagonists with no objectives (such as Nightmare or Morph), may murderbone as they please
* Admins have the authority to act outside of the listed rules when they feel it's in the best interest of the server/playerbase. They will, however, be fully accountable for their actions when they do.

* Cultists may only murderbone once they reach the halo stage. This also applies to other antags with “stealthy” forms- hivemind, devil, etc. They may only murderbone when they have been revealed.
* Listen to admins without argument during the round, but if you feel there is a problem with their actions, file an appropriate complaint on the forums (Ban appeal for unfair bans, player report if you believe another player should have been punished but wasn't or an admin report for a breach of Admin Conduct)

* Revolutionaries and Gangsters should not murder potential converts, meaning non-mindshielded, non gang personell should be detained or beat into a critical state for conversion. Conversion resistant races, like Plasmamen for revs or IPC’s for gang are difficult to impossible to convert, and may be treated as if they were mindshielded.
* Closing the game or ignoring an admin PM will automatically label you as guilty, and you may be forced to explain what occurred on the forums.

* Internal affairs agents may not murderbone, but external affairs may.
* Harassing, insulting, lying to or being difficult to admins during tickets may result in additional punishment.

* Abductors must avoid killing, unless the target has proved themselves a significant threat to them. Abductors may kill those who they cannot do experimental organ replacement on with impunity.
* Praying makes you a target for admin abuse; Be careful what you wish for!

* Certain midround antags (Obsessed, Fugitives, those who gain objectives via abductor organ/brainwash etc) may never murderbone. They are allowed to follow lavaland escalation, but may only kill unprovoked with the intent of completing their objectives.
R1 Be Excellent to Each Other
Murderbone items
* Be patient with other players and assist them when you can; Remember this is a newbie-friendly server before anything else and toxicity toward players for not understanding something will not be tolerated.
* There are two role-specific traitor items that either greatly encourage or flat out require murderbone, these being the clown car and His Grace. Murderboning with these will not be punished.

High Death Roles
* Do not bully/harass other players in or out of the game
* If your role has a method of indiscriminate killing (That is not just walking up to someone with a weapon your role has!), such as an atmos tech opening fusion canisters or a virologist releasing a death plague, they may use these as antag at any time, as long as their antag is allowed to kill already (sorry, virologist who injected himself with fentanyl to gain Obsessed) For obvious reasons, they must be tactful when using these as team antag. This rule is to allow people to shine with their role when they finally get an antagonistic role.
AHelp and Ticket Conduct
*Leaving/Ignoring an admin PM will automatically label you guilty.
*Showing respect and patience with admins has proven to make them more lenient.
*An admins ruling on a issue is final for that round. Do not try to bring it up again.
*Do not immediately ask if the person who killed you is an antag, you will be rejected. If you are still uncertain if your death was valid, spectate them and see if they are performing additional unruly behavior before reporting.
Meta and Communications
*Using outside sources of information/software on the round to gain an advantage over players is not tolerated.
*In character communication in out of character channels (ICK OCK) is not allowed. Discussing out-of-round information ingame is also not tolerated. This refers to admin tickets and references to reporting other players (eg. "I'm ahelping you for doing that") as well as any information that was obtained through channels considered as ICK OCK.
*Recordings and Streaming are allowed. Streams are required to have a minimum 1 minute delay for broadcasting and are responsible for any metacommunications in their chat feed. Recordings must not be uploaded until the round has ended.
*You cannot attack players over events that occured in a previous life. This includes ghost respawns, and new rounds. This does not include cloning.
*Multikeying (using more than 1 CKEY) will get you banned.
*If you wish to use metacomms to assist new players, you must consult an Admin beforehand. After that, it's fine.
Job Specific Policies
You are expected to follow these rules for virology and Silicon (borg, AI etc.) roles. You are advised to play these roles after being somewhat familiar with the game as they are a bit more demanding.
Silicon Policy
Virology Policy
No Ban-Evading or Multikeying
*If you've been banned, you probably deserved it. Accept responsibility for your actions and wait to be unbanned. You can file an appeal or admin complaint on the forums if you genuinely feel you didn't deserve it.
*Do not attempt to bypass a ban by using another account, using another IP address, or any other means. All of your accounts will be permabanned, no exceptions.
*The only exception is if you were banned for having an offensive ckey, and you created a new account with an inoffensive ckey.
*No multikeying. Multikeying is defined as logging into the server with two or more separate accounts during the same round. Multikeying will result in a permaban.
No Advertising/Recruiting
*Do not post byond:// links or IPs to other servers and talk about how much better you think said servers are. People are more than welcome to play elsewhere, you're just being rude.
*Obviously, players are aware that other servers exist and may freely discuss them. Just don't be an ass about it.
*Do not try to lure players to the containment servers without making them aware of what they are getting into.
*If you attempt to poach/recruit our staff members, we reserve the right to laugh nervously while we tighten the leashes and silence your heresy.
Common Sense
Common sense is expected.
If you are uncertain about a niche thing, look up a ruling for it here.
You are welcome to ask questions on our Discord.

MRP (Sage) Rules
Admin Discretion
*Admins have the authority to 'ignore' rules when they feel it's in the best interest of the server/playerbase. They will, however, be fully accountable for their actions. Listen to them without argument during the round, but if you feel there is a problem with their actions, report them on the forums afterwards. The Admin Conduct that the staff are expected to follow can be found here.
Use Common Sense
*If everybody followed this rule, none of the others would be necessary.
*In the immortal words of Bill and Ted, "Be excellent to each other."
*If you suspect something might lead to you being banned, it probably is bannable. The rules cannot cover all possible cases, and the roleplay server is much stricter than the main server.
*If you are not sure whether something would be considered against the rules, use adminhelp.
*If you were given permission by admins to do something once, that does not necessarily mean you can do it again.
Be Excellent to Each Other
*Be patient with players and try to assist them, especially new ones.
*Don't harass players or staff in OOC or outside the game. You have some wiggle room in character (IC), but expect IC consequences.
*ERP is not tolerated, you will be permabanned. We may or may not share the logs so others can laugh at you. Go to a containment server if you want to ERP.
*"Toeing the line" is not permitted. Do not try to bypass the rules by bending them or ignoring the rule's intention.
*Racial and homophobic slurs are not permitted.
You Must Roleplay
*Your character is a grown adult working on a research station for a major company. You are a professional. Act like it.
*Netspeak (lol, wtf, brb, etc.) is not permitted in character (IC).
*Using emotes to speak when you other wise can't, may result in punishment.
*Use a lore-friendly name, and follow the naming conventions for your species. Do not use the names of famous real/fictional people/characters. Naming yourself after pop-culture items, icons, or references is also prohibited. Only clowns can use meme names.
*Have knowledge of your role. If you are new to the game, we recommend playing on our main server instead.
*Respect space law and standard operating procedures. Committing minor crimes is justifiable through roleplay, but major crimes should typically be avoided.
Don't Self Antag
*Self-antagging includes (but is not limited to) damaging the station, attacking other players without reason, and subverting the established chain of command as a non-antagonist role. You need a reason justified by roleplay to cause harm to others.
*Griefing includes (but is not limited to) intentionally ruining the game by abusing mechanics such as exploits, spamming the shuttle, causing server crashes, etc.
*You may defend yourself against others, but avoid escalating the situation.
*Admins can punish you if they believe your actions are unjustified or over-escalating the situation.
*Even if your actions are justified and do not result in out-of-character (OOC) consequences, you may still face consequences in character (IC).
*No, roleplaying as an "insane person" does not mean you get to kill people.
Antagonist Conduct
Antagonists are exempt from IC rules, barring rules regarding erotic roleplay and bigotry, unless stated otherwise under this. Antagonists must work with their team if they have one. As a team antag, do not blow the cover of your team if they intend to act stealthily. This applies to team lings as well!
* Don’t attack/damage the arrivals shuttle, and do not attack anyone until they have left the shuttle at least once.

Murderboning
* "Toeing the line" is not permitted. Do not try to bypass the rules by bending them or ignoring the rule's intention. "Well this technically isn't against the rules" means you are likely violating this.

Murderboning is defined as indiscriminate killing of multiple parties for absolutely no reason. Isolated killings are not murderboning.
* Do not attempt to keep a round hostage or try to force a round to end early. Constant calling/recalling of the shuttle against the flow of the round may be met with admin intervention up to being directly smited.

Any antagonist not mentioned below who does not have a Hijack or Martyr objective/murderbone item (also listed below) may not murderbone.
* No erotic content is to be posted OOC or IC as the server contains minors. Violation of this will result in an immediate, permanent ban which may or may not be eligible for appeal.

* Wizards, Nuclear Operatives, Space Ninjas and Space Dragons may murderbone as they please.
* No racial/homophobic slurs or generally intolerant behavior is permitted in or outside of the game. IC Racism between different species is permitted, but keep real-world slurs and references out of it.
* Abductors must not kill any targets that do not directly threaten them. They are expected to return targets to a place that makes sense, and not take any items the abductors do not need, or that will not be dangerous to the abductors, to be left with them. Abductor’s goal is to experiment and observe!
* Internal affairs agents may not murderbone. External Affairs Agents may.

Murderbone Items
There are two role-specific traitor items that either greatly encourage or flat out require murderbone, these being the clown car and His Grace. Murderboning with these will not be punished.

Behaviour
R2 No Self-Antagging or Grief
* Antagonists with no objectives must act in ways suiting their nature. The goal of a Morph is to eat everything , the goal of a Nightmare is to snuff out all lights- and those who keep the station lit. Even Xenomorphs must act for their objective. Their primary goal is to breed and protect their hive.

* All antagonists MUST put their objectives first, and not act contrary to their objectives, unless greentext becomes impossible!
* Griefing is intentionally ruining the game on a large scale. This includes doing things that have the potential to cause large amounts of death or harm for no reason or to attempt to force the round to come to an end.

* Antagonists need not hesitate to defend themselves or eliminate witnesses, or people who are “in the way”! While deadchat may be salty and yell at you for murderboning, these do not constitute murderbone, even on MRP. This isn’t a hugbox.
* Abusing exploits or forcing server crashes will result in permanent bans.

* If you’re able to assassinate security with a low collateral damage method, then you’re allowed to do so preemptively before they’ve shown that they’re a direct threat to you. For example e-swording them in maint would be okay, but maxcapping the brig would not. Abductors already have different rules regarding murder (i.e. avoid it) which applies to them above this rule
* Actively seeking conversion or transformation into an antagonist is considered self-antag. This includes actions that are blatantly careless such as bolting your upload open as an AI in the hopes of being subverted.
No Powergaming
*As a non-security & non-command crewmember, you're not an experienced soldier. Do not rush into danger without reason.
* Causing unreasonable damage to the station is self-antag, and may be considered griefing depending on the scale of the damage.
*Do not collect dangerous items, weapons, or tools "just in case". Do not wear a hardsuit, riot suit, or similar bulky/uncomfortable armor for the entire round.

*Mundane items that an everyday person would have (tools, insuls, sunglasses, soap) are not powergaming unless used specifically in a way that breaks another rule. In those cases it will add to increasing punishments for powergaming.
* You may defend yourself against others in any way you are capable, but you must follow Escalation Policy when doing so. Failure to do so is considered over-escalation, and may be cited as self-antag in severe cases.
*Use reasonable self-defense; subdue, but do not try to revenge-kill, any assailants.

*Do not run around with all of the genetic powers, three buffing viruses and the entire armory in your backpack. This is an example of severe powergaming.
* Taking unique items that are intended for use by a specific job other than your own is considered self-antag, even if that job is currently not filled.
*Antags are exempt from this rule.
** This applies to the entire crew, including the Captain and "acting" Heads/Captains.
AHelp and Ticket Conduct
** Receiving permission to take a unique item directly from its rightful owner (or someone believably impersonating them) is not a violation of this rule.
*Leaving/Ignoring an admin PM will automatically label you guilty.
** Hand teleporters are considered unique for the sake of this rule, and are considered job specific to the Research Director and Captain.
*Showing respect and patience with admins has proven to make them more lenient.
** Unique items covered by this rule are expected to be left in their original spawn position until taken by either an antagonist or their rightful owner
*An admins ruling on a issue is final for that round. Do not try to bring it up again.
*** The nuclear authentication disk and captain's spare ID are exceptions to this rule.
*Do not immediately ask if the person who killed you is an antag, you will be rejected. If you are still uncertain if your death was valid, spectate them and see if they are performing additional unruly behavior before reporting.

No Metagaming
* Stripping items off of another player is self antag unless a fight with them has escalated at least to the point they may be put into crit.
*Using knowledge your character should not have is not allowed. This includes (but is not limited to) all knowledge you gain as a ghost.
** Security and their deputies are excluded from this rule while following Standard Operating Procedure.
*In character (IC) communication in out-of-character (OOC) channels, Discord, or other platforms is not allowed. You cannot discuss an ongoing round until the round has ended.

*Recording and streaming are allowed. Streams must have a minimum 1 minute delay and are responsible for any metacommunications in their chat feed. Recordings must not be uploaded until the round has ended.
* Indiscriminately handing out extra access to other players without sufficient reason is considered self-antag.
*You cannot attack or accuse players as a result of events that occurred in a previous life. When you are cloned, you do not know who your killer is unless someone else tells you.

Leaving the Game
* Granting mass sentience will be treated as self-antag if more creatures are given sentience than you can maintain reasonable command over.
*All players are strongly encouraged to use the cryopods to exit the round. This frees up the job slot so someone else can take it.
** Direct disobedience to orders will still be at the fault of the sentient creature
*You will not be punished for logging out after a round starts unless you are a head of staff or other important role.
** Vague instructions such as "Do whatever you want" or "You're free" will be at the fault of the player in charge of issuing orders.
*Heads of staff and other important roles must notify the admins if they wish to leave, or they may be jobbanned.
** Giving sentience to a Broodmother will always be considered self-antag.
*Suiciding or logging off simply because you did not become an antagonist is not allowed. If you primarily wish to play as an antag, we strongly encourage playing on the main server instead.

Heads of Staff Conduct
* Planting Kudzu or Shadowshrooms is considered griefing unless they are properly contained and planted with good reason or some sort of beneficial end-goal in mind.
*Heads of Staff are held to higher standards than regular crewmembers. You are expected to be a competent person and competent at your job.

*Heads of Staff, generally, should not abandon their post. This means you should not leave the station on space adventures or explore lavaland.
* Creating or ordering an additional major source of power (Tesla, Singularity, Supermatter shard, etc.) while the station's primary power system is still operational will be considered self-antag if the containment fails due to incompetence of the player that set it up.
*Heads of Staff should not overstep their bounds. For example, the Head of Personnel is not a member of security and should not run around hunting criminals. Nor should the Head of Personnel loot the armory or give themself all-access.

*The Captain is not an Assistant with all-access. You are expected to be a competent leader and ensure the success and survival of your station and its crew.
* Uploading dangerous laws to silicons, or laws that jeopardize a silicon's well-being is self-antag.
Do Your Job
*Non-antagonists are required to perform their assigned job in good faith. Breaks are fine, but ignoring your department and obligations is not. This goes especially true for Silicons, Heads of Staff, and Security.
* Clowns, Mimes and Stage Magicians are expected to "entertain" the crew and have some allowance to skirt the above rules in order to suit gimmicks. Always safest to ask an available admin before carrying out a gimmick that pushes or crosses a line.
*As people are expected to do their job, you are also expected to let people do theirs. If someone is manning a department, you must make a reasonable effort to solicit them for the service you require of them. If they are absent or unwilling to provide a necessary service or item, you are permitted to attempt to do it yourself, at the risk of IC consequences.

*Being an assistant is not a free pass to ignore any part of this rule. Assistants are expected to help around the station, not immediately rush all the supplies that aren’t nailed down or behind locked doors - Ask for whatever supplies you need from the department(s) you’re helping.

Job Specific Policies
R3 No Advertising/Recruiting
You are expected to follow these rules for virology and Silicon (borg, AI etc.) roles. You are advised to play these roles after being somewhat familiar with the game as they are a bit more demanding.

Silicon Policy
* Do not post links or IPs to other servers or talk about how much better you think said servers are. People are more than welcome to play elsewhere if they choose without encouragement.
Virology Policy
* Obviously there are other servers out there and discussion may pop up now and then - advertising another server isn't the same as having a discussion about them.

R4 No Multikeying
* Choose one CKEY to play with, alternate accounts will be banned. If your CKEY is offensive, you will be directed to create a new account and the old will be banned.

* If you are in a household with more than one person playing, it would be best to notify admins as soon as possible. If one of the accounts is banned, the other may be considered ban evasion if we don't already know about it.

* If you are found to be using an alternate account to ban evade, you will be permanently banned from the server. Existing permanent bans are far less likely to be considered for appeal if you have been caught evading.

* If you are found to have more than one account logged into the same round, all accounts will be banned permanently as this is considered cheating.

R5 Antag Conduct
* If you are part of a team, you must work with your partners toward completing whatever objectives you share. This means you do not have the option to refuse to assist your team when converted.

* Antagonists with objectives involving hijacking the escape shuttle, dying a glorious death, or who possess His Grace/Clown Car are exempt from all other antagonist conduct.

* Antags are expected to follow all rules that do not directly interfere with their objective unless otherwise listed as exempt.

* Antags are free to complete their objective by any means available, within reason. For example, destroying large amounts of the station is reasonable if your objective is to hijack the shuttle; it is not acceptable as a distraction if your objective is to steal the station's blueprints.

* As long as you are playing an antagonist that is allowed to kill, Security is considered a threat and may be pre-emptively eliminated without provocation, but low-collateral methods must be used to eliminate them. Bombing the security wing is not considered low-collateral.

* Crew inside a department in which you must complete an objective may be considered a threat and pre-emptively eliminated without provocation.

* Murderboning is defined as the indiscriminate killing of multiple parties for no reason. Murderboning is not permitted.
** Intentionally creating additional witnesses as an excuse to kill them will be considered murderboning. (Pursuing someone into a main hall is always a bad idea, hide the evidence or hide yourself)
** Isolated killings and kills that reasonably assist with your objectives are not murderboning.

* See our Antagonist Conduct page for full details involving individual types of antagonists before enabling them in your preferences.

R6 Metagaming and Meta-communications
* Using outside sources of information/software on the round to gain an advantage over players is not tolerated and will result in a lengthy or permanent ban from the server.

* Discussing In character communication in out of character channels such as OOC or Discord is not allowed while rounds are ongoing (referred to as ICK OCK).

* Recordings and Streamings are allowed, but you must have a minimum of 1-minute delay for broadcasting. Recordings must not be uploaded until the current round has ended.
** You are also responsible for any metacomms taking place in your chat feed - obviously you can't control your viewers, but acting on metaknowledge from your feed will result in a ban.

* You cannot attack players over events that occured in a previous life. This includes ghost respawns, and new rounds. When you are cloned, you do not know who your killer is unless someone else tells you.
** Taking action against another player based on events your current character couldn't know about, or that occurred in a different round is called meta-grudging.

* If you wish to use metacomms to help assist/teach new players, contact an admin first and we will allow it. Just be sure not to act on any information that would get you in trouble as outlined above.

R7 Leaving the Game
* If you wish to leave the game, please use the cryopods located in the dorms when possible. This will free up your character's job to be filled by a new player. Store any important items in your department before heading to cryo.

* AI and command staff that leave the game (Cryo or not) without notifying admins may find themselves banned from Command/AI roles. As command, you may be playing an integral role in the round and shouldn't leave without notice, barring an emergency.

* Suiciding or logging off simply because you did not become an antagonist is not allowed. If you queue up for the round and then immediately leave the game you may be antag banned and will definitely have your antag rep wiped

Sage(MRP) Rules
All of the rules in this section apply only to our Medium role-play server, Sage. Bans applied as a result of breaking these rules will result in a ban only from Sage, since role-playing is not required on Golden.

M1 You must Roleplay
* Your character is a grown adult working on a research station for a major company. You are a professional; act like it. You answer to your superiors and they hold the power to demote you for insubordination.

* Respect Space Law and Standard Operating Procedure from the beginning of the round, but exception are justifiable through good roleplay as circumstances change with each round.
** Command staff is expected to enforce standard operating procedures within their department and to hold their subordinates accountable for breaching it.

* Declaring independance from NT or the rest of the station is grounds for a server ban unless it is done in response to character-driven events that have occurred in the current round.
** Even if excused as valid role-play, declaring independance is still treason and will be treated as such IC, either by CentCom or Security. Expect to be executed.

* Netspeak is not permitted (lol, wtf, brb and the like)

* Discussing out-of-round information in-game is not tolerated. (referred to as OCK ICK or OOC IC). This includes referencing admins, the fact you're playing a game on a server, as well as references to any other information that was obtained outside of your character's scope of knowledge.

* Use a lore-friendly name, and follow the naming conventions for your species by referring to Naming Guidelines.
** Do not use the names of famous real/fictional people/characters. Obvious or heavy references are also not allowed, even if not intentional.
** Clowns, mimes, and wizards are permitted to have meme/unusual names, but admin discretion still applies to extreme cases.

* Have knowledge of your role. If you are new to the game, we recommend playing a service role or Assistant so you can learn the basics without any major expectations.
** Our low role-play server, Golden, is intended to better facilitate learning the game as a whole since you won't be expected to role-play.

M2 No Self-antagging or Grief
* All global self-antag rules apply, but the following are additionally self-antag only on the MRP server, Sage

* Forcibly changing another player's race or transforming them without their direct consent is self-antag.

* Ordering dangerous shuttles without majority approval by the crew is self-antag. Dangerous shuttles include: Oh hi Daniel, Disco Inferno, Hyperfractal Gigashuttle, The Arena and Meteor with Engines.

* Disconnected players (SSD players) may not be stripped of items or searched for evidence of being an antagonist; Move them somewhere safe if possible. You can identify a player as disconnected by examining them; "They may snap out of it soon" means they are simply disconnected. "Any recovery is unlikely" means the player is gone for good and their body may be treated as if it were dead.
** Players disconnecting during an active arrest may still be searched.
** A disconnected player may be referred to as succumbing to SSD, or Space-Sleep Disorder

M3 No Powergaming
* Do not seek items that have no relevance to your job without an appropriate IC reason that was formed within the current round.
** This also includes seeking items for self-defense in maintenance or otherwise "just in case".
** Blue alert is not a reason to seek items for self-defense.
** Red alert or a direct threat/attack to yourself or your department are valid reasons to seek items for self-defense.
** Tech storage does not exist so you can have your own personal machine and ignore an entire department from the get-go; The boards stored within are intended to be backups for the original department.

* As a non-security & non-command crewmember, you're not an experienced soldier. Do not rush into danger unless there is no other option. This means you should call security if you see suspicious or hostile activity, rather than trying to investigate/intervene yourself unless you're a head of staff. This means no valid-hunting.
* Antags are exempt from this rule at all times.

M4 Do Your Job
* Non-antagonists are required to perform their assigned job in good faith. Breaks are fine, but ignoring your department and obligations is not. This is especially true of silicons which require constant attention to answer to people issuing orders you are law-bound to obey.
** If you are not familiar with what your job entails, you need to read the Standard Operating Procedure for your department.

* As people are expected to do their job, you are also expected to let people do theirs. If someone is manning a department, you must make a reasonable effort to solicit them for the service you require of them. If they are absent or unwilling to provide a necessary service or item, you are permitted to attempt to do it yourself, at the risk of IC consequences for breaking/entering or otherwise.

* Assistants are expected to help around the station and playing one is not a free pass to just do your own thing. You are the lowest in the chain of command among crew and are expected to answer to anyone and everyone when something is asked of you.

* Gimmick roles are expected to act out their assigned role in good faith. Barbers should style hair and otherwise advertise their services. Stage Magicians should "entertain" crew similar to clowns and mimes. Debtors "homeless" conspiracy theorists that think NT is out to get them (Do not seek to remove your hat), Psychiatrists should seek patients or obnoxiously flout their useless degree in the bar.

M5 Head of Staff conduct
* Heads of Staff are held to higher standards than regular crewmembers. You are expected to be a competent person and competent at all the jobs that work under you. You will be expected to lead your department as a professional and to enforce Standard Operating Procedure upon your underlings. Heads of staff are liable for head-bans if they are found to be incompetent at the role but choose to take it anyway. Heads of staff are not beginner-friendly roles on this server, or roles to take just for cool gear

* Heads of Staff generally should not abandon their post. Your underlings are much more expendable to NT than you are, do not leave the station to explore space or gateway missions unless there is a pressing need to.

* Heads of Staff should not overstep their bounds, for a few examples:
** The Head of Personnel is responsible for managing access to the station, but is only directly in charge of service and supply jobs. Access should only be given after joint communication with the department that access is being requested to, unless there is no head of staff present within it.
** The chief engineer is not in charge of science and should not be ordering scientists what to research
** The research director is likewise not in charge of the engineers and should not be demanding that engineers build machines for science.
** The captain or acting captain has final say over every department head, and is responsible for every department that has not yet been assigned a head of staff.

* The Captain's goal is to ensure the safety of their crew and the success of the station as a whole, not to abuse your position and power-trip over the station. The captain is not required to be totally proficient at all departments, but they should have at least a surface understanding of how each department functions. While total proficiency isn't required, Captains are still held to the highest standards of any other role on the station.

Golden(LRP) Rules
Golden provides the best beginner experience for the game due to its relatively lax rules - In fact, Golden doesn't actually have any additional rules in itself, just an extension of our Escalation Policy. In addition to normal escalation, there are several actions that make players "Valid" as explained below. The validity system is intended to teach players what to and not to do on the space station, since becoming valid will usually result in your untimely death and ultimately, your removal from the round. Be wary when trying to kill valid players however; just because a player is valid doesn't mean they can't defend themselves when attacked, and players that are particularly robust at combat may make themselves valid in an effort to incite others into fighting them.

Validity Rules
* Once a player is valid to you, they can be removed from the round by any means you see fitting. This includes torturing them in any way you can come up with while not actually killing them.

* Just because your target is valid does not mean you are immune to IC repercussions for what you do to them. Security may still detain you for murder, for instance.

* Suspicions, hearsay over comms, and meta knowledge are not sufficient enough to deem someone valid, but allow for further investigation. No amount of arguing/declaring that a player is valid will make them valid to others that did not witness the act/evidence.

* All types of antagonists are valid once proven. Admitting to being an antagonist, even if you're lying, counts for the purposes of this rule.

* Self-antag makes you valid, but should be reported to admins via ahelp before acting.
** An admin response is not required to move forward with killing the other player, but failure to report the other player will be counted as over-escalation.

* Erotic role-playing or reciting erotic content makes you valid. This should also be reported to admins so we can remove degenerates from the server permanently ASAP

* Players willingly/knowingly cooperating with antagonists are valid.

* Mutiny and Grand Sabotage as described under Space Law make you valid.
**Attempted Murder/Murder does not, and all other capital crimes are already covered by other definitions in a broader scope than space law covers.

* Trespassing in certain high-security areas makes you valid unless you are part of command staff/security, or absolutely no command staff/security is present. Entering with stolen access or by slipping in through an open door is still trespassing. This includes the following areas:
** Bridge
** Command staff quarters and offices
** Vault
** Armory
** AI satellite
** AI upload

* Being seen with antagonist equipment makes you valid. Loot gamer gear at your own risk.

* Being seen with a unique item you are not entitled to possess makes you valid, even if you had permission to take it.

* Buying a dangerous shuttle makes you valid (Oh hi Daniel, Disco Inferno, Hyperfractal Gigashuttle, The Arena and Meteor with rockets.)

* Releasing a virus with any detrimental effects makes you valid (Virology Policy)

* Breaking your stated laws as a silicon makes you valid.

* Constructing an AI without permission from the Captain makes you valid.

* Mimes breaking their vow of silence are valid.

* Spamming radio/communications makes you valid.

* Killing Ian makes you valid.

* Admins may deem a player valid. Ask if you are unsure in any particular situation, or if you'd like special permission to kill someone annoying who is otherwise not valid yet.

Global Rules

All of the rules in this section apply to both servers and will be enforced equally regardless of which server you are on. Bans applied as a result of breaking Global rules will result in a ban from both servers, not just the server the offense occurred on.

R0 Admin Discretion/Ticket Conduct

  • Admins have the authority to act outside of the listed rules when they feel it's in the best interest of the server/playerbase. They will, however, be fully accountable for their actions when they do.
  • Listen to admins without argument during the round, but if you feel there is a problem with their actions, file an appropriate complaint on the forums (Ban appeal for unfair bans, player report if you believe another player should have been punished but wasn't or an admin report for a breach of Admin Conduct)
  • Closing the game or ignoring an admin PM will automatically label you as guilty, and you may be forced to explain what occurred on the forums.
  • Harassing, insulting, lying to or being difficult to admins during tickets may result in additional punishment.
  • Praying makes you a target for admin abuse; Be careful what you wish for!

R1 Be Excellent to Each Other

  • Be patient with other players and assist them when you can; Remember this is a newbie-friendly server before anything else and toxicity toward players for not understanding something will not be tolerated.
  • Do not bully/harass other players in or out of the game
  • Don’t attack/damage the arrivals shuttle, and do not attack anyone until they have left the shuttle at least once.
  • "Toeing the line" is not permitted. Do not try to bypass the rules by bending them or ignoring the rule's intention. "Well this technically isn't against the rules" means you are likely violating this.
  • Do not attempt to keep a round hostage or try to force a round to end early. Constant calling/recalling of the shuttle against the flow of the round may be met with admin intervention up to being directly smited.
  • No erotic content is to be posted OOC or IC as the server contains minors. Violation of this will result in an immediate, permanent ban which may or may not be eligible for appeal.
  • No racial/homophobic slurs or generally intolerant behavior is permitted in or outside of the game. IC Racism between different species is permitted, but keep real-world slurs and references out of it.

R2 No Self-Antagging or Grief

  • Griefing is intentionally ruining the game on a large scale. This includes doing things that have the potential to cause large amounts of death or harm for no reason or to attempt to force the round to come to an end.
  • Abusing exploits or forcing server crashes will result in permanent bans.
  • Actively seeking conversion or transformation into an antagonist is considered self-antag. This includes actions that are blatantly careless such as bolting your upload open as an AI in the hopes of being subverted.
  • Causing unreasonable damage to the station is self-antag, and may be considered griefing depending on the scale of the damage.
  • You may defend yourself against others in any way you are capable, but you must follow Escalation Policy when doing so. Failure to do so is considered over-escalation, and may be cited as self-antag in severe cases.
  • Taking unique items that are intended for use by a specific job other than your own is considered self-antag, even if that job is currently not filled.
    • This applies to the entire crew, including the Captain and "acting" Heads/Captains.
    • Receiving permission to take a unique item directly from its rightful owner (or someone believably impersonating them) is not a violation of this rule.
    • Hand teleporters are considered unique for the sake of this rule, and are considered job specific to the Research Director and Captain.
    • Unique items covered by this rule are expected to be left in their original spawn position until taken by either an antagonist or their rightful owner
      • The nuclear authentication disk and captain's spare ID are exceptions to this rule.
  • Stripping items off of another player is self antag unless a fight with them has escalated at least to the point they may be put into crit.
  • Indiscriminately handing out extra access to other players without sufficient reason is considered self-antag.
  • Granting mass sentience will be treated as self-antag if more creatures are given sentience than you can maintain reasonable command over.
    • Direct disobedience to orders will still be at the fault of the sentient creature
    • Vague instructions such as "Do whatever you want" or "You're free" will be at the fault of the player in charge of issuing orders.
    • Giving sentience to a Broodmother will always be considered self-antag.
  • Planting Kudzu or Shadowshrooms is considered griefing unless they are properly contained and planted with good reason or some sort of beneficial end-goal in mind.
  • Creating or ordering an additional major source of power (Tesla, Singularity, Supermatter shard, etc.) while the station's primary power system is still operational will be considered self-antag if the containment fails due to incompetence of the player that set it up.
  • Uploading dangerous laws to silicons, or laws that jeopardize a silicon's well-being is self-antag.
  • Clowns, Mimes and Stage Magicians are expected to "entertain" the crew and have some allowance to skirt the above rules in order to suit gimmicks. Always safest to ask an available admin before carrying out a gimmick that pushes or crosses a line.

R3 No Advertising/Recruiting

  • Do not post links or IPs to other servers or talk about how much better you think said servers are. People are more than welcome to play elsewhere if they choose without encouragement.
  • Obviously there are other servers out there and discussion may pop up now and then - advertising another server isn't the same as having a discussion about them.

R4 No Multikeying

  • Choose one CKEY to play with, alternate accounts will be banned. If your CKEY is offensive, you will be directed to create a new account and the old will be banned.
  • If you are in a household with more than one person playing, it would be best to notify admins as soon as possible. If one of the accounts is banned, the other may be considered ban evasion if we don't already know about it.
  • If you are found to be using an alternate account to ban evade, you will be permanently banned from the server. Existing permanent bans are far less likely to be considered for appeal if you have been caught evading.
  • If you are found to have more than one account logged into the same round, all accounts will be banned permanently as this is considered cheating.

R5 Antag Conduct

  • If you are part of a team, you must work with your partners toward completing whatever objectives you share. This means you do not have the option to refuse to assist your team when converted.
  • Antagonists with objectives involving hijacking the escape shuttle, dying a glorious death, or who possess His Grace/Clown Car are exempt from all other antagonist conduct.
  • Antags are expected to follow all rules that do not directly interfere with their objective unless otherwise listed as exempt.
  • Antags are free to complete their objective by any means available, within reason. For example, destroying large amounts of the station is reasonable if your objective is to hijack the shuttle; it is not acceptable as a distraction if your objective is to steal the station's blueprints.
  • As long as you are playing an antagonist that is allowed to kill, Security is considered a threat and may be pre-emptively eliminated without provocation, but low-collateral methods must be used to eliminate them. Bombing the security wing is not considered low-collateral.
  • Crew inside a department in which you must complete an objective may be considered a threat and pre-emptively eliminated without provocation.
  • Murderboning is defined as the indiscriminate killing of multiple parties for no reason. Murderboning is not permitted.
    • Intentionally creating additional witnesses as an excuse to kill them will be considered murderboning. (Pursuing someone into a main hall is always a bad idea, hide the evidence or hide yourself)
    • Isolated killings and kills that reasonably assist with your objectives are not murderboning.
  • See our Antagonist Conduct page for full details involving individual types of antagonists before enabling them in your preferences.

R6 Metagaming and Meta-communications

  • Using outside sources of information/software on the round to gain an advantage over players is not tolerated and will result in a lengthy or permanent ban from the server.
  • Discussing In character communication in out of character channels such as OOC or Discord is not allowed while rounds are ongoing (referred to as ICK OCK).
  • Recordings and Streamings are allowed, but you must have a minimum of 1-minute delay for broadcasting. Recordings must not be uploaded until the current round has ended.
    • You are also responsible for any metacomms taking place in your chat feed - obviously you can't control your viewers, but acting on metaknowledge from your feed will result in a ban.
  • You cannot attack players over events that occured in a previous life. This includes ghost respawns, and new rounds. When you are cloned, you do not know who your killer is unless someone else tells you.
    • Taking action against another player based on events your current character couldn't know about, or that occurred in a different round is called meta-grudging.
  • If you wish to use metacomms to help assist/teach new players, contact an admin first and we will allow it. Just be sure not to act on any information that would get you in trouble as outlined above.

R7 Leaving the Game

  • If you wish to leave the game, please use the cryopods located in the dorms when possible. This will free up your character's job to be filled by a new player. Store any important items in your department before heading to cryo.
  • AI and command staff that leave the game (Cryo or not) without notifying admins may find themselves banned from Command/AI roles. As command, you may be playing an integral role in the round and shouldn't leave without notice, barring an emergency.
  • Suiciding or logging off simply because you did not become an antagonist is not allowed.

  • Your character is a grown adult working on a research station for a major company. You are a professional; act like it. You answer to your superiors and they hold the power to demote you for insubordination.
  • Respect Space Law and Standard Operating Procedure from the beginning of the round, but exception are justifiable through good roleplay as circumstances change with each round.
    • Command staff is expected to enforce standard operating procedures within their department and to hold their subordinates accountable for breaching it.
  • Declaring independance from NT or the rest of the station is grounds for a server ban unless it is done in response to character-driven events that have occurred in the current round.
    • Even if excused as valid role-play, declaring independance is still treason and will be treated as such IC, either by CentCom or Security. Expect to be executed.
  • Netspeak is not permitted (lol, wtf, brb and the like)
  • Discussing out-of-round information in-game is not tolerated. (referred to as OCK ICK or OOC IC). This includes referencing admins, the fact you're playing a game on a server, as well as references to any other information that was obtained outside of your character's scope of knowledge.
  • Use a lore-friendly name, and follow the naming conventions for your species by referring to Naming Guidelines.
    • Do not use the names of famous real/fictional people/characters. Obvious or heavy references are also not allowed, even if not intentional.
    • Clowns, mimes, and wizards are permitted to have meme/unusual names, but admin discretion still applies to extreme cases.
  • Have knowledge of your role. If you are new to the game, we recommend playing a service role or Assistant so you can learn the basics without any major expectations.
    • Our low role-play server, Golden, is intended to better facilitate learning the game as a whole since you won't be expected to role-play.

M2 No Self-antagging or Grief

  • All global self-antag rules apply, but the following are additionally self-antag only on the MRP server, Sage
  • Forcibly changing another player's race or transforming them without their direct consent is self-antag.
  • Ordering dangerous shuttles without majority approval by the crew is self-antag. Dangerous shuttles include: Oh hi Daniel, Disco Inferno, Hyperfractal Gigashuttle, The Arena and Meteor with Engines.
  • Disconnected players (SSD players) may not be stripped of items or searched for evidence of being an antagonist; Move them somewhere safe if possible. You can identify a player as disconnected by examining them; "They may snap out of it soon" means they are simply disconnected. "Any recovery is unlikely" means the player is gone for good and their body may be treated as if it were dead.
    • Players disconnecting during an active arrest may still be searched.
    • A disconnected player may be referred to as succumbing to SSD, or Space-Sleep Disorder

M3 No Powergaming

  • Do not seek items that have no relevance to your job without an appropriate IC reason that was formed within the current round.
    • This also includes seeking items for self-defense in maintenance or otherwise "just in case".
    • Blue alert is not a reason to seek items for self-defense.
    • Red alert or a direct threat/attack to yourself or your department are valid reasons to seek items for self-defense.
    • Tech storage does not exist so you can have your own personal machine and ignore an entire department from the get-go; The boards stored within are intended to be backups for the original department.
  • As a non-security & non-command crewmember, you're not an experienced soldier. Do not rush into danger unless there is no other option. This means you should call security if you see suspicious or hostile activity, rather than trying to investigate/intervene yourself unless you're a head of staff. This means no valid-hunting.
  • Antags are exempt from this rule at all times.

M4 Do Your Job

  • Non-antagonists are required to perform their assigned job in good faith. Breaks are fine, but ignoring your department and obligations is not. This is especially true of silicons which require constant attention to answer to people issuing orders you are law-bound to obey.
  • As people are expected to do their job, you are also expected to let people do theirs. If someone is manning a department, you must make a reasonable effort to solicit them for the service you require of them. If they are absent or unwilling to provide a necessary service or item, you are permitted to attempt to do it yourself, at the risk of IC consequences for breaking/entering or otherwise.
  • Assistants are expected to help around the station and playing one is not a free pass to just do your own thing. You are the lowest in the chain of command among crew and are expected to answer to anyone and everyone when something is asked of you.
  • Gimmick roles are expected to act out their assigned role in good faith.

  • Heads of Staff are held to higher standards than regular crewmembers.
  • Heads of Staff generally should not abandon their post. Your underlings are much more expendable to NT than you are, do not leave the station to explore space or gateway missions unless there is a pressing need to.
  • Heads of Staff should not overstep their bounds, for a few examples:
    • The Head of Personnel is responsible for managing access to the station, but is only directly in charge of service and supply jobs. Access should only be given after joint communication with the department that access is being requested to, unless there is no head of staff present within it.
    • The chief engineer is not in charge of science and should not be ordering scientists what to research
    • The research director is likewise not in charge of the engineers and should not be demanding that engineers build machines for science.
    • The captain or acting captain has final say over every department head, and is responsible for every department that has not yet been assigned a head of staff.
  • The Captain's goal is to ensure the safety of their crew and the success of the station as a whole, not to abuse your position and power-trip over the station. The captain is not required to be totally proficient at all departments, but they should have at least a surface understanding of how each department functions. While total proficiency isn't required, Captains are still held to the highest standards of any other role on the station.

Golden provides the best beginner experience for the game due to its relatively lax rules - In fact, Golden doesn't actually have any additional rules in itself, just an extension of our Escalation Policy.
