Maps on Beestation

In Use BoxStation, DeltaStation, MetaStation, FlandStation, KiloStation, CorgStation, RadStation
Outdated, removed, or not in rotation RuntimeStation, GlowStation, PubbyStation

PubbyStation was first added to /tg/station's rotation in late 2016. It was created by Pubby, who stated that his goal was "to create a lowpop map derived from my favorite parts of Box and Meta." It shares quite a bit in terms of layout with other popular maps while retaining a distinct identity thanks to its unique design and features.

Current Maintainer: Pubby

Space Monastery

The space monastery is one of PubbyStation's most unique features. Combining the chapel, library and garden into one relatively isolated megastructure, it is home to the chaplain and the curator, who each have their quarters and vocational paraphernalia located on-board. The space monastery is quite large, boasting the facilities necessary to make it nearly self-sustaining.

Overview

The following notable features can be found on the space monastery:

  • A public chapel with communion wafers and a confessional booth
  • Sandy, but spacious exterior grounds for meditation and art projects
  • Chaplain's office, with adjacent crematorium
  • Public-access garden, complete with an apiary and seeds, including those for holy-melons
  • Dining room and kitchen, containing everything needed for cooking and basic botany
  • Funeral chapel, containing six caskets and two mass drivers
  • Two dorm rooms, each with a private bathroom
  • A small library, with seating area
  • A larger library, containing a museum, role-playing game supplies, and the curator's personal equipment.
  • A maintenance room containing the monastery's power storage, atmos system, tools and water/fuel tanks.

Strategy

  • Given the prevalence of station destruction by careless engineers, you may find refugees flocking to the monastery in times of peril. One might be wise to stock up on medicines and space suits to prepare for this.
  • The space monastery is visited even less often than the chapel or library on other stations. This is good for pursuing personal projects undisturbed.
  • Be wary of visitors. Not everyone who shows up has benign intentions, and security is usually minutes away when seconds count.
  • If you tend to the garden, you will easily amass a surplus of produce. The crew may appreciate it if you delivered some to the station.

History and Development

Numerous tweaks and refinements have been made since the map's creation by a number of contributors, including Pubby, ShizCalev, 81Denton and others.

2016

In its original form, a number of jobs were missing, including chaplain, curator and lawyer. Pubbystation received two updates soon after its release. In addition to bug fixes and minor additions, these updates included the first appearance of PubbyStation's iconic space monastery as the home for the chaplain.

2017

In mid-2017, a transit tube connecting the station to the monastery was added. Later that summer, PubbyStation received another major update that removed the theater stage during a revamp of the central mess hall. Most notably, the update added a curator wing to the monastery.

2018

The departures bay was redesigned, making room for a law office and allowing people to play as the lawyer. Hydroponics received a public biogenerator, while the engineering department received a new storage room. The science department had a layout change, implementing a single large experiment room to serve as a central hub, with an extra large experiment room added to the xenobiology wing.

2019

In the March of 2019, a controversial pull request that replaced PubbyStation's singularity/tesla engine setup with a supermatter was merged. Supporters of the change purported that it was necessary for game balance, while those opposed lamented the loss of the variety and excitement that the singularity and tesla brought to the game.
