==== Use of Deadly Force ====
As a member of the stations Security force you are one of the best armed and protected people on the station, equipped with the almost latest in non-lethal takedown technology.
It is for this reason that the situations that warrant the use of Deadly Force are few and far between, in the grand majority of circumstances you will be expected to use your stun weapons, which indeed are many times more effective than lethal options, to diffuse a situation.

There are a few circumstances where deadly force is permissible:
# Code blue: "Security is authorized to use lethal force on suspects suspected of Major or greater crimes who actively flee and resist arrest, and suspects who assault officers without responding to verbal warnings to stop."
* '''Code Red Situation''' - situations which would warrant a Code Red, such as: full blown mutinies, hostile boarding parties, and Space Wizards automatically authorize lethal force. <br>Note: The Alert Status is not required to be elevated to Code Red as in most of these scenarios the Chain of Command will be too damaged or otherwise occupied to raise the Alert Level.
# Code Red: "Security is allowed to use lethal force with extreme prejudice on individuals who actively disrupt combat efforts. Proper justification is expected after the crisis ends; use of this clause for trivial matters can be considered assault or manslaughter, depending on the outcome."
* '''Non-Lethal Weapons Ineffective''' - The target has a very high resistance or immunity to non-lethal weapons (such as through drugs, armor, magic, mutations or other means) which make them ineffective when correctly deployed.
# Code Black: "Security is allowed to use lethal force with extreme prejudice on individuals who actively disrupt combat efforts. Proper justification is expected after the crisis ends; use of this clause for trivial matters can be considered assault or manslaughter, depending on the outcome."
* '''Severe Personal Risk''' - sometimes getting close enough to a target to slap the cuffs on will create significant personal risk to the Officer. Deadly force from range is recommended to subdue Wizards and confirmed Changelings.
# Code Delta: "All orders from Heads of Staff and security must be followed, any disobedience is punishable by death."
** Criminals in hostile environments such as space, fire, or plasma leaks also fall into this category, as do criminals believed to be in possession of high explosives. Ranged lethal force is the only reasonable option in these conditions.
* '''Armed and Dangerous''' - if a suspect is in possession of weapons, including stun weapons, and you have reasonable suspicion that they will use these against you, lethal force is permitted. Although in the majority of cases it is still preferable to attempt to detain them non-lethally.
** Unauthorized personnel in the armory are considered by default to be Armed and Dangerous, maximum force is permitted to subdue such targets.
* '''Multiple Hostiles''' - it can be extremely difficult to detain multiple hostiles. '''As a last resort''' if you are being mobbed you may deploy your baton in a harmful manner to thin the crowd. Generally it is better to retreat and regroup than stand your ground.
* '''Uncontainable''' - if a prisoner turns out to be uncontainable and there is no way to contain them reliably, then a permanent sentence always warrants an execution. For example; unpreventable teleportation abilities or the ability to smash through reinforced walls and more.

Use of Deadly Force

Deadly Force, any action reasonably expected to cause death or bodily harm, is forbidden unless one of the situations below applies AND non‑lethal options cannot resolve it. This section is the final authority; references elsewhere on the wiki may be disregarded. Non‑lethal equipment must always be used when it is capable of resolving the situation.

Authorized Situations

Deadly Force is permitted only when at least one of the following is true:

  • Self-Defense: If no non-lethal option is available, Deadly Force is authorized to be used on suspects who persistently assault officers without responding to verbal warnings to stop.
  • Ongoing Security Alert: The alert has been formally raised, command has declared it over comms, or a code‑red‑level situation exists with no command present. Follow Guidelines below for further details:
    • Blue Alert: Deadly Force is authorized against suspects guilty of Major or greater crimes who are actively resisting arrest.
    • Martial Law(Red, Black): Deadly Force is authorized against any individual who is actively disrupting combat efforts.
    • Delta Alert: Deadly Force is authorized against any individual disobeying a direct order from either security or a member of the command team.
  • Non‑lethals ineffective: Non‑lethal weapons have been correctly used and failed, or the target is known to be immune to them.
  • Extreme risk during apprehension: Approaching the target would cause immediate, unavoidable severe harm, the target cannot be isolated from the danger, and retreat or non‑lethal options are insufficient. (e.g. a suspect carrying a triggerable explosive.)
  • Armed and actively dangerous: The suspect is reasonably believed to be armed (including stun weapons) and has taken clear action showing intent to use the weapon. Any unauthorized person inside the Armory is automatically considered armed and dangerous.
  • Overwhelming numbers: The officer is physically attacked by three or more hostiles and retreat is impossible.
  • Uncontainable suspect: The target possesses abilities or tools that defeat all containment methods and has already attempted escape using them.

Absolute Prohibitions

Every usage of deadly force requires proper justification after the fact. If proper justification is not provided, an officer may be charged with any appropriate crimes committed, up to and including prime murder.

Deadly Force is never permitted:

  • As punishment or intimidation, unless authorized by the Captain as part of a capital sentence.
  • Against fleeing or unarmed individuals who do not meet an authorized category above.
  • When any non‑lethal option remains effective.
  • Based on suspicion or incomplete information alone.
