Quote: Well maybe if the Captain had asked before plunging that syringe into his artery he wouldn't be a monkey now.

You start in the Genetics Lab and get to pull your hair out from the amount break-ins at the lab play God. This is a very technical class, but there are a few simple things people can do that are still learning the ins and out of genetics. The main thing you're meant for: find super powers, fix disabilities, and cloning dead people.

Bare minimum requirements: Clone the corpses dropped off at your doorstep. Don't hand out Hulk like candy to random tiders.

Medbay
The genetics lab is located in Medbay. It is separated into two sections: Genetic Cloning and Genetic Research

Genetic Cloning

This is one half of your job. Make sure you know how to do it.

How to Clone people

  1. Put a dead, unhusked corpse in the DNA scanner
  2. Use the cloning console and press "Start Scan"
  3. Once the scan has completed, press "View Records," select the person you need to clone, and press "Clone"
  4. (Optional) Leave the gear from the corpse in front of the cloning pod and put the corpse in the Morgue

Early Ejection

Early Ejection is what happens if you forget someone forgets to keep the cloning pod filled up with Synthflesh. Early Ejection is often times detrimental, requiring the person to be cloned again. The effects of Early Ejection include the person coming out:

  • Without a heart
  • Without limbs
  • With blindness/deafness/muteness
  • With Tourettes
  • With severe brain damage
  • With severe radiation poisoning
  • With severe cellular damage

Not worth it.

Genetic Backup

Being able to clone the Miners and Space Explorers when they inevitably die is nice, even more so if you don't have to go out to Lavaland or Space to retrieve the corpse. To do this, just bug the Miners and Space Explorers to get into the DNA scanner while they're still alive, scan them, then, when they die, use the cloning console and clone them as usual, if they are still alive, you will not be able to clone them.

Genetic Research

Any geneticist worth their salt knows that manipulating the DNA of living things is their ball game.

See the Guide to Genetics when you're ready for the real SCIENCE.

Tips

  • If someone has a cavity implanted item, you can instantly remove it by monkeying them.
  • Monkeying someone who is impregnated (With a Xenomorph embryo) will remove the embryo, curing them.
  • The Genetics DNA altering console can spit out injectors for UEs and UIs as well as Mutations. This means that, if you get a willing volunteer or even just a humanized monkey (Made by giving a monkey 1u of mutadone), you can run around the station changing everyone into the same person (if you do this without being antag or having people’s con-sent, you will get banned).
  • You can put disks into the cloning computer to save the UI and UE of people scanned.
  • Radiation (and thus radstorms and mutagen) has a very, VERY small chance to give non-negative mutations. One of the "Gotta go fast" schools of genetics is to hit a humanized monkey with a load of mutagen and get most of the disability blocks in five minutes.
  • It can be empirically shown that, for an unupgraded machine, a pulse duration of 4 seconds is the most efficient trade-off of time and success rate.
  • If the mime's being a jackass, stealthily inject him/her with a Tourettes Injector, and watch them get lynched for breaking their vow

Traitortips

  • The DNA scanner works great as a small prison, just get the person you want to keep in there to get into the scanner, then lock it from a linked console, the person cannot get out on their own.
  • Change your identity if you're caught being a shitler. Keeps people off of you.
  • Telekinesis is very OP. With X-ray it's nigh-unstoppable if used correctly. You can:
    • Bash people with items. If they pick the item up you can still hit them with it.
    • Steal ID's out of computers
    • Steal guns out of charging stations
    • Steal items across desks
    • Operate basic machinery (unfortunately you can't use the chemmaster but you can put things into it)
    • Be an all around douchebag
  • X-Ray + Telekinesis can be used to onehuman the AI from outside the upload. Unfortunately, you cannot activate the freeform module correctly. Shame.
